Our Vision for MFL at Bethersden
It is our intention here at Bethersden Primary School to provide all of our children with a high-quality education in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), which develops their love of learning about other languages and cultures.
The current language taught is French, however we aim to provide children with opportunities to experience (a range of) other languages and develop an understanding of other cultures, allowing them to celebrate and welcome differences in our world. Communication is a key part of learning a language and this will be encouraged as much as is possible during MFL lessons.
Our aim is to inspire a love of language as part of their lifelong journey of learning and to equip pupils with the skills required to continue their study of a language in KS3.
We look to encourage and support our EAL learners and encourage them to share their skills and knowledge of their language within the school community, whether that be their class or the whole school.
To support the learning of French in school, children can access a variety of language games through the Language Angels website. Games are available that support their current or previous topic and are a good way to practice and revise.

Our European Day of Languages
We celebrated Our European Day of Languages on Monday 26th September. Our pupils undertook a journey around Europe, visiting a range of countries and gaining a stamp (sticker) for their passports from each country. In Spain, castanets were made. Whilst visiting the Netherlands, origami tulips were produced. Italian Geography was a focus and the climate whilst in Iceland. On arriving in Greece, time was spent learning a form of Greek dancing. A lot of fun was had by all.
