Welcome to Elm class
It has been a busy year so far in Elm Class. We kicked off our new topic ‘Past and Present’ with a Chinese theme. We learnt all about schools in China and Chinese New Year. We made Chinese lanterns, tasted Chinese food and even made dragon masks and took part in a dragon dance.
After Chinese New Year our theme changed to ‘On the Farm’. We learnt about where foods come from, the life cycle of a chicken, we used laptops to create our own farms, we created a farm animal display using different art and craft techniques and we learnt about what animals need to stay healthy and happy.
Our new theme this term is ‘Superheroes’. Where we will be making our own superhero cuffs, designing our own superheroes and using different techniques to create our own cities.
In maths this year so far we have been engaging in a variety of number and shape, space and measure learning. We have been learning:
- To order items by length, height, weight and capacity.
- To begin adding groups of objects together.
- To say one more and one less than a given number up to 15.
- To estimate and check by counting.
- To begin to use mathematical language to name 3D shapes and describe them.
- To create and recreate patterns and build models.
Reading Writing Excellence
As you know we have given our reading and writing scheme a new twist and it is now called ‘Reading Writing Excellence’. Our new take on the scheme allows us to personalise the learning and of course have lots of fun.
