Welcome to the Bumblebee Class webpage 2022-2023!
Welcome children and families to our home page. We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and you are ready for an exciting new academic year. To our families already part of the Bethersden family it is lovely to see you again. To new members, welcome to our family.
Our class page will be updated regularly with the children’s learning as well as useful information and updates so please ensure you return to this page often to celebrate our learning journey with us.
This year we are looking forward to engaging in new curriculum opportunities that are ambitious and rich provided by the Cornerstones Curriculum programme. Our first project in Term 1 is titled ‘Me and My Community’. This meaningful and child centred project will support children to settle into school life, make new friends and feel confident in their class. It teaches children about the importance of being helpful, kind and thoughtful both in school and at home. This project teaches children to recognise how they are all unique and special and how people in their family, school and local community are important and can help them.
In addition to our project ‘Me and My Community’ we will be engaging in a second project during the second half of the term titled ‘Once Upon a Time’ where Bumblebee Class will be inspired to develop their love for stories and reading. Throughout this project the children will be encouraged learn, retell and act out familiar and traditional tales such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
Read Write Inc
At Bethersden we strive to teach children to read effectively and quickly using the Read Write Inc phonics programme. This includes synthetic phonics, sight vocabulary, decoding and encoding words as well as spelling and accurate letter formation. Our phonics lessons take place daily and are taught by our dedicated Read Write Inc phonics teachers. As well as teaching phonics through adult led lessons we also provide a language rich environment and opportunities for children to explore phonics through play both within the classroom and in the outdoor learning environment.
In early years and throughout the school we follow the maths mastery programme Power Maths. Power Maths is a programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths. During our first Power Maths unit we will be focusing on counting and begin developing a deep understanding of number.
How can you help your reception child?
There are many ways that you can help your reception child at home to support them on their learning journey in.
-Please ensure they are onetime everyday, wear the correct uniform and have a healthy and balanced breakfast each morning.
-Provide your child with a water bottle to ensure they are hydrated.
-Promote a love for reading. This includes reading to your child, listening to them read and let them see you enjoying a book.
-Please ensure your child is dressed for all weathers. In Bumblebee Class we will play and learn outside whatever the weather. Rain or shine we love to play and learn.
In Bumblebee Class we have an open door policy. We are always available after school if you need a quick catch up. If you need a longer or more private meeting, please book this through the office and we will be happy to accommodate.
If you have a non-urgent message for the team you could email the families email on the address below. This is checked regularly and the message will get to the class team.
We cannot wait for our learning journey to begin.
Very best wishes,
Miss Young and Miss Mexter – The Bumblebee Team
