We would like to welcome you all to Bumblebee class. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and are ready to start the new year back in Bumblebee Class. We are going to start our term by looking at our topic ‘Imagination’, where we will be looking at castles, knights, princesses and dragons. We can’t wait to see where the children’s imagination will take us. We will then move onto our topic ‘Mini Beasts, where we will be exploring different insects and how we can care for their habitats.
Read Write Inc:
As a school, we follow the Read Write Inc scheme and our aim is to provide a memorable and inspiring learning opportunities for all children. We are passionate about developing a love for learning inside and outside of the classroom.
In our phonics lessons, we will continue practising and recapping our sounds, focusing on blending words with our special friend sounds. We will also be learning how to read books independently and write simple sentences. We will continue to encourage children to mark make, label and write during their child-initiated time. We can’t wait to get stuck in with learning all our sounds and have a fun filled term with plenty of opportunities for the children to practise their writing and reading skills.
To support your child at home:
Please read as much as possible with your child and encourage them to talk about what you have read together. Can you also please encourage your child to write little notes (e.g. shopping lists, labels on their drawings).

We follow a maths scheme called Power Maths, which encourages children to learn through practical mathematical experiences that are supported by high quality maths talk. This is to support every child to develop a level of mastery in problem solving skills to support them with everyday maths. There is maths all around us and in Bumblebee class we love to go out and explore maths not only in our classroom but also within nature.
In maths this term, we are going to be looking at numbers in detail to ten, comparing different groups and addition to ten. We will also be exploring numbers in our everyday environments and looking at how numbers can help us in our everyday lives.
To support your child at home:
Please encourage your children to explore numbers at home as much as possible. Some fun activities you can do with your children are go on a number hunt, get them to help you count your items at the shop or count different groups of toys.
Change of Clothes: Please can you ensure your child has a full change of clothes in their book bags including socks or tights.
Outdoor Footwear: Please can you ensure your child has a pair of wellies to keep in school.
PE Kit: PE will be on a Monday. Please ensure PE kits are returned to school and remain in your locker for the whole term. Your PE kit should include: a plain top, shorts, jogging bottoms, a hoody/fleece and trainers (without laces)/plimsolls.
Book Change: We will be changing books on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
