Ashford Sings visits Bethersden

We were lucky enough to be visited by Ashford Sings and Ashford Vineyard church in October to turn Key Stage 2 into a community choir.  The visit was part of the Ashford Vineyard “1,000 Hours” program (see below).  We had a great time, and the morning was such a success that we were good enough to put on a performance to the rest of the school.

Ashford Vineyard – 1,000 Hours.

As part of the Ashford Vineyard church program to serve the people and businesses of Ashford by giving a 1,000 hours of volunteering, volunteers from East Kent College Folkestone made a planter for the school garden.  The planter was presented to the school by Chris and Nic Kimmance, and was gratefully received by Mr Clark, Miss Finn and Year 5.

I’m a soundwave – get me in your ear!

On Friday 15th July we had an amazing workshop for the whole school, presented by Simon and Chris from Loud Learning who really got us interested in sound.  We used loads of equipment, including our bodies, to show the effects of sound in our daily lives.

And what did we learn? Sound is key to all vibrations!

Our garden

This term, we have been tidying up our garden.  We have a greenhouse, a vegetable patch and lots of flower pots.  The teachers have been buying plants and soil and each class has had an area to work on.

We love singing!

Our school has a choir that rehearses every Monday and Thursday.  Thursday morning assembly is also singing assembly, where the whole school comes together to sing our hearts out.

Tenterden Rural Alliance Book Celebration Evening

Pupils and staff attended the TRA book celebration evening on Tuesday 12th July at Homewood School and Sixth Form College. Host Mark Lowry introduced author Nicky Singer and chaired a question and answer session with pupils from schools across the TRA.  Bethersden was represented by Jonathan and Joshua from Chestnut Class, who performed a great ‘double act’ in presenting their critique of Nicky Singer’s book ‘Island’, which the class had been reading.  The evening was rounded off with a book signing by Nicky and Mark, who is also an author of children’s books.  The boys were also awarded a £50 book token for the school for their contribution to the evening.  Well done boys!
