Governors & Associate Members

The governing body of Bethersden Primary  School reconstituted on 28 February 2013 in line with the School Governance (Constitution) (England) Regulations 2012. Twelve governors are appointed to sit on the school’s governing body. They are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school, ensuring financial health, probity and value for money, and holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school. The governing body review their structure, terms of reference and standing orders on an annual basis, and have adopted the ‘circle’ model of governance, requiring the governing body to convene at least six times per year. This model requires pairs or groups of governors to carry out regular monitoring responsibilities and report back to the full governing body.

 

 

Eavanne Allen
Holds one of the 7 co-opted governor posts, appointed by the full governing body in May 2013 for a 4 year term. Eavanne is responsible for ‘Early Years’ and for monitoring within the teaching and learning group. Eavanne has children who currently attend Bethersden Primary School

Sophie Beale
Sophie was appointed by the governing body as an Associate Member (without voting rights) in October 2013. Sophie is Deputy Headteacher at Bethersden School and will retain Associate membership for 4 years, or until termination of her appointment, whichever is shorter.

Sam Buckman (Chair of Governors)
Appointed by the governing body for a second 4 year term of office as co-opted governor commencing January 2016.   Samantha was re-affirmed as Chair of Governors for a further 2 year term ending January 2018. Amongst her many responsibilities, Samantha is responsible for monitoring the school’s ‘outcomes’ and sits on the governing body’s panels for the Headteacher’s performance review, and for leadership pay. Samantha’s children currently attend Bethersden Primary School.

Chloe Burnett                                                                                                                                                                                        Chloe was appointed as an Associate Member by the governing body in September 2016 for a period of up to 12 months, whilst the Deputy Headteacher is on leave.

Sally Carysforth                                                                                                                                                                                  Elected by parents in December 2014 to one of the 2 parent governor posts. Sally is committed to a 4 year term of office, and her responsibilities including monitoring behaviour, safety and welfare in school, as well as sitting on the panel for the Headteacher’s performance review. Sally is also the lead governor for training and development. Sally’s children attend the school.

Rob Clark
Appointed by the governing body as a co-opted governor for a 4 year term in September 2015, Rob took on joint responsibilities within the leadership and management group. Rob also works at the school as a class teacher and ICT coordinator.

Marian Draper (Vice Chair of Governors)
Marian was nominated by the Local Authority and appointed by the Governing Body in December 2014 for a 4 year term, Marian was also elected to the post of Vice Chair for a 2 year term in January 2015. Marian is the lead governor on ‘safeguarding’, and is responsible for monitoring behaviour, safety and welfare in school. Marian also sits on the Pay Panel. She stepped down December 2016.

Gemma Foley                                                                                                                                                                                        Elected by the Governing Body on 10 December 2015 as a Co-opted Governor. Gemma will serve a four year term of office, and her responsibilities include participation in the leadership and management monitoring group.

Wendy Grace
Elected by staff in October 2014 for a 4 year term, Wendy holds the ‘staff’ governor post. Wendy has long service on the governing body, and is a member of the group monitoring teaching and learning .

Steven Harris                                                                                                                                                                                        Elected by parents on 1 December 2015 to one of the two parent governor posts.   Steven is committed to a 4 year term of office,  and his responsibilities include monitoring  of teaching and learning.  Steven’s child attends the school.

Andrew Jones                                                                                                                                                                                   Elected as an Associate Member (without voting rights) by the Governing Body for a 4 year term on 20 January 2016.  Andrew supports the Behaviour, Safety and Welfare monitoring group.

James McClymont                                                                                                                                                                           Jim was appointed by the full governing body as a co-opted governor for a 4 year term in January 2014 and sat on the leadership and management group, as well as the Headteacher’s performance review, and pay appeals panels. Jim stepped down from his role in May 2016.

Ann Morgan
Ann joined the governing body in May 2015, when she was appointed as a co-opted governor for a 4 year term by the full governing body. Ann is the lead governor for Special Educational Needs, and it responsible for monitoring ‘outcomes’.

Andrew Patience
Andrew was appointed by the governing body as an Associate Member (with limited voting rights) for a 4 year term of office in October 2014.

Marian Draper

Marian was nominated by the Local Authority and appointed by the Governing Body in December 2014 for a 4 year term; Marian was also elected to the post of Vice Chair for a 2 year term in January 2015.  Marian was the lead governor on ‘safeguarding’, and was responsible for monitoring  behaviour, safety and welfare in school.  She stepped down from the Governing Body in September 2016.

Jim was appointed by the full governing body as a co-opted governor for a 4 year term in January 2014 and sat on the leadership and management group, as well as the Headteacher’s performance review, and pay appeals panels.  Jim stepped down from his role in May 2016.
